Initiatives & UpdatesNew: Consent to Treatment Policy and Guidelines
At their March 2, 2012 meeting, the Board of Directors approved a new Quality Assurance Committee policy called "Consent to Treatment". This policy supports the new "Consent to Treatment Guidelines" now part of the Quality Assurance Program. Both documents speak to the importance of understanding the dynamic process of obtaining client consent to treatment. The guidelines are there to help you understand elements of consent required in part 2 of the Health Care (Consent) and Facilities Admissions Act and principles 4 and 5 of the CDBC Code of Ethics. Additional information about consent to treatment, decision tools and case scenarios are available in the BC Ministry of Health's "Health Care Providers' Guide to Consent to Health Care". Please take time to familiarize yourself with the new policy and guidelines. You may want to consider adding this review to your Continuing Competence Program.
